Face Lift: Plastic surgery is a personal and important decision. Dr. Shapiro wants to assure you that he and his staff are committed to providing personalized and quality Face Lift care at our Scottsdale, Arizona office. We welcome the opportunity to give you the information you need on Face Lifts to make the best possible decision.
In Arizona Face Lifts are most commonly performed on patients in the forty to sixty age range. However, Face Lift patients in their sixties and seventies can have excellent results as well. Some of the most visible signs of aging begin with the face. The most common signs of aging include deep lines that run from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth, loose skin around the neck and jaw line, and excess fatty tissue in the neck and jowles. Exposure to large amounts of sun and stress, as well as the aging process can produce wrinkled, creased skin on the face and neck.
A Face Lift procedure is designed to approach these aging factors in various ways. Face Lift incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples and follow a natural line in front of the ear, then curve behind the earlobe into the crease of the ear. The skin is then lifted and draped but not pulled during a Arizona Face Lift. The muscles of the face and cheek tissue are resuspended to give longer lasting results without that "pulled" or "wind tunnel" look. Every patients facial structure, bone, and skin type are different. Dr. Shapiro will discuss the Face Lift with you on an individual basis. Frequently other procedures can be combined with your Face Lift such as a Brow lift, Eyelid Surgery, Rhinoplasty, and cheek and chin implants. All of these additional Face Lift factors can be discussed to meet your desired expectations with a natural looking result.
The Face Lift procedures are done under general anesthesia, and require a one night stay at the hospital. The Face Lift procedure takes about three to four hours. The Face Lift patient will have a turbin type wrap around the head and drains placed which the doctor will remove the following day at discharge. You will need someone to assist you for the next few days after your Face Lift. Following your Face Lift procedure you will need to rest with your head elevated to help minimize swelling and bruising. With a Face Lift procedure the discomfort is usually minimal, however, any pain you may feel can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by the doctor. Most Face Lift patients may resume many of their normal activities within the first two weeks. Some of the activities you will need to limit after the Face Lift procedure include exercise, strenuous work, heavy lifting, swimming, and exposure to direct sunlight.
Every year in Arizona thousands of men and women have a Face Lift procedure and experience no major complications. Carefully following Dr. Shapiro's instructions before and after surgery minimize these Face Lift risks. All medical conditions will be discussed, past and present medications you may be taking, including herbal products, and nutritional supplements. Dr. Shapiro does require an EKG, and some lab work prior to having a Face Lift procedure.
